First-line Herceptin extends progression-free survival in combination with an aromatase inhibitor

Patients with HER2/hormone receptor co-positive tumours have a poor prognosis and are less likely to respond to tamoxifen and, potentially, aromatase inhibitors.1-3

The Phase III TAnDEM trial demonstrated the benefit of combining Herceptin with an aromatase inhibitor (anastrozole) in post-menopausal women with HER2/hormone receptor co-positive disease. Compared with anastrozole alone, the combination tripled the objective response rate (6.8% vs 20.3%, respectively; p=0.018) and doubled progression-free survival.4
