Xeloda© extends survival in metastatic breast cancer
Combination therapy
Xeloda© /Taxotere combination therapy (XT) in patients with breast cancer was studied in a phase III trial of 511 patients whose disease had progressed during or following prior anthracycline-based chemotherapy.1 They were randomized to receive either Taxotere alone or in combination with Xeloda© using the indicated dosage regimen.
Overall survival was significantly longer in patients receiving XT than in those treated with Taxotere alone (14.5 months vs 11.5 months; p=0.0126).1 Time to disease progression was also significantly longer with XT (6.1 vs 4.2 months, p=0.0001) and the response rate was higher (42% vs 30%, p=0.006).
The addition of Xeloda© to Taxotere can extend survival significantly in patients with metastatic breast cancer, beyond the use of Taxotere alone. From O'Shaughnessy et al.,1 with permission.
Further trials have investigated regimens combining Xeloda© with taxanes and anthracyclines, anthracyclines and cyclophosphamide, vinorelbine, and Herceptin. |
